Since it’s the holidays and I don’t have to go to school I had some extra time for a nail design. In a week my exams will start and because I’m a procrastinator, I spend more time polishing my nails than studying. Hope I won’t regret it after my exams ;-) But anyways I tried out a more time-consuming nail design than I would normally do. And just to warn you a lot of striping tape and patience is needed. But I thinks it’s worth it and a little extra fits perfectly for New Year’s eve ;-)
For this nail art design I started with a very light color. I used ‘moon over Mumbai’ from OPI’s India collection. I had to add about four coats because I didn’t want it to show my nail line. But the more layers you add the ticker it gets and the longer it takes to dry. So I waited until the next day to do the striping tape part. The color used for the triangles is ‘Dark side of the mood’ from OPI’s 50 shades of grey collection. I really love this dark grey color especially in winter times.
Adding the striping tape for this design is a little tricky, especially on your dominant hand. Because you want the triangles to look the same you’ll need some concentration to apply the tape perfectly. First I cut the tape in little pieces to have them ready and I add the tape nail per nail. First I tape the pieces diagonally in one direction, then I add the pieces of tape diagonally in the other direction and at last I tape the horizontal pieces. It’s important to remember in which order the pieces of tape are applied, because you need to remove them in the other direction. Otherwise the tape will pull other pieces off and ruin the polish. So when the pieces are all taped I add the color for the triangles and I remove the pieces of tape in the right order. Again as soon as you used the polish start removing the tape, don’t wait until the polish is dry. Don’t forget to add a top coat, it would be sad to do all this effort without protecting the design with a top coat.
So for everyone who’s willing to spend just a little more time on a design, this is the one you’ll want to go for! But when you don’t have the time, better don’t start it, because it will all just become a big mess. Good luck and feel free to share your results! :-)
