Fashion weeks are over for this season! After New York, London, Milan and Paris fashion week everyone had been inspired again for some new outfits! Of course I love looking at all those fabulous outfits but I’m also looking at the nails. Because new nail art trends are also shown at these fashion shows. The most striking trend for me is the contouring trend. And I’m not talking about make up, because you can contour your nails as well. When you contour your nails you can make them look smaller and longer. That’s perfect for me at this moment because in the last weeks almost all my nails broke :(
Nail contouring is really easy to do. The most simple way of doing it is by just using one color. You just polish your nails but you leave out the sides of your nails. So you only have a stroke in the middle of your nails. Another way is to use multiple colors but to use the lighter ones as a base. The darker colors are used for the stroke in the middle. So contouring your nails looks like this:
Now it’s time for my own nail art using the contouring trend. I started by applying two layers of Let’s be friends from OPI. I applied two pieces of tape to leave out a stroke in the middle of the nail. With little pieces of tape I taped triangles in the stroke. These triangles were polished in different shades of pink. I used Spoken from the heart, your web or mine? and she’s a bad muffuletta! from OPI. I also used 496, from KIKO. This color is more purple than pink but I like it combined with the shades of pink. I taped all my nails in one time and then I applied the different colors with a smaller brush in the triangles. When I removed the tape most of the polish had already dried. Because of that I removed some of the polishes and that makes it a little messy. I corrected that and then I applied a top coat.
You can make this trend as easy or as hard as you want to. With dark colors like black and bordeaux you can easily see the effect by only using one color. When you take a closer look you can see that the sides of your nail aren’t polished. But when you just look at your hands you’ll also see that in fact your nails will look longer. So it’s perfect for people with shorter nails! J
